Melatonin
is a hormone produced by the pineal gland,
endocrine gland which is located in the central part of the brain. It
is
produced after dark. It is formed from an amino acid - tryptophan
located in
cereals and yellow cheese. It has been identified in smaller quantities
in
other parts of the body. Melatonin secretion varies throughout a
person's life,
and its production is the lowest in the elderly.
This
substance has a beneficial effect on the immune
system, allowing the fight against diseases and maintaining youthful
health and
