11-Lean,
also known as
and Adrenosterone, is a hormone produced by the adrenal
gland and
released in response to stress with other stress hormones like
cortisol.
Cortisol plays a vital role in maintaining homeostasis by increasing
energy
availability during times of stress by liberating fatty acids from fat
tissues
and increasing muscle protein breakdown to supply amino acids. Cortisol
is
needed by the body but elevated cortisol levels can lead to unwanted
fat
accumulation, excessive muscle breakdown, and symptoms of overtraining.
High
cortisol levels can lead to the accumulation of
visceral fat surrounding the organs, commonly referred to as a “beer
belly.â€
Visceral fat can supply energy quickly to the liver during times of
stress.
Because visceral fat is more readily available to supply energy to the
liver
the body increases its storage in response to high cortisol levels
because it
thinks it needs more readily available energy to aid in the stress
response.
Chronically elevated cortisol levels leads to visceral fat storage.
In
addition to increasing fat storage, high cortisol
levels also increase the breakdown of muscle tissue. Cortisol decreases
insulin
sensitivity in the liver causing it to increase the formation of
glucose
through gluconeogenesis from amino acids obtained from muscle tissue.
Chronically elevated cortisol levels leads to excessive muscle
breakdown.
To
make matters worse, high cortisol levels also
reduces the secretion of TSH, LH, and GH from the pituitary gland,
decreasing
T3, testosterone, and IGF-I levels respectively. So not only does high
cortisol
levels increase body fat and decrease muscle mass it also decreases the
levels
of hormones needed to optimize fat loss and muscle gains. This is where
11-OXO
comes into play.
11-lean(Adrenosterone)
controls cortisol levels through
selective inhibitor of 11b-hydroxysteroid dehydrogenase type I
reductase
(11HSD1R), the enzyme that converts cortisone to cortisol in the liver,
muscle,
and fat tissue. Costisone is basically an inactive form of cortisol, so
by
blocking 11HSD1R you decrease the body’s ability to convert cortisone
to
cortisol and thereby the total amount of cortisol in the body. By
selectively
inhibiting 11HSD1R--and not other enzymes--you can decrease the
negative effects
of cortisol while not suppressing it to the point where it cannot
perform its
positive actions in the body that are essential to overall health.
11-Lean
Benefits
Selectively
inhibiting 11HSD1R with 11-lean may lead
to:
Increased
fat loss (specifically visceral adipose
tissue)
Improved
insulin sensitivity
Increased
muscle hardness
Optimal
hormone production
