Butyrate  is primarily the main source of energy for colonocytes (thick intestinal epithelial cells), which affects the regeneration of the intestinal epithelium and the correct state of the mucous membrane of the colon.

Butyrate normalizes the functioning of the intestines. It supports their proper peristalsis, regulates the reabsorption of water and sodium in the intestines, and also affects the proper composition of the intestinal bacterial microflora.
