Astaxanthin - is an organic chemical compound from the group of xanthophylls. It comes from Haematococcus pluvialis microalgae. It is a metabolite of cataxanthin and zeaxanthin. As with many other carotenoids, astaxanthin is soluble in fats. The astaxanthin molecule contains multiple conjugated multiple bonds that condition the color of the substance as well as its antioxidant properties.
